Christmas Tree Farming

We are currently in the proccess of growing christmass trees. We includes my Father Don McVittie, My son Kurtis McVittie and myself Mike McVittie. I think this project is amazing specifically because of three generations of a familly are involved.

We are working on 5 acres of sandy soil that was recently clear cut for this farm. This all started about 5/6 years ago and we have been planting 1000 trees every spring. We now have filled the 5 acres and have about 5000 trees in the ground. This year 2011 will be the year for our first selling opportunity. We have Scotch pine and Fraizer Fir however the fir is not ready yet. Last Christmas our family did use one of the Scotch pine even though it was a little small.

We are learning as we go and hope we are not making any fatal errors. This spring I will be busy with trimming the trees, cutting weeds and unwanted growth and building a small sales cabin.
